FLEECE FOR GUINEA PIG CAGE?

I have a C&C cage and right now for the bottom i have towels over lino, over a woodboard. The towles smell SUPER bad because of guinea pig pee. I've heard that i can put news paper under towels, under fleece (from pet store)so it does not smell as bad. Is this correct?? Is the special fleece for guinea pigs absorbant?? What kind is best?? Can you wash it??? Any other things to help the C&C cage not smell bad???
