Is it harmful to the healing process to soak wounds in warm water?

Does just regular tap water help heal wounds, does it do nothing, or does in impede the healing process. I currently have the beginnings of a scab forming on my gash i got and I was wondering what effects water has on the wound/scab/healing process. Thanks (by the way.. the injury is road rash and has some scab forming).
